NYC and nasty strep

I felt when my throat got icky. It happened as soon as we came to NYC. First day, first hour, first everything. The heat, lack of sleep, lack of healthy food and there I was, sick to no belief. Cold chills, night sweats and sandpaper being shoved down my throat. I haven’t been sick for some time now and I was a little shocked. I do have a great immune system. Before I got pregnant with Ronelle, I have never been sick. It all started with that first pregnancy. Second pregnancy it got worse. I had strep again, sore throat, allergies, cold.. You name it, I had it.

We had some business to get done in NYC. WE didn’t go there just for fun. Although we did have some fun. I should say tons of fun minus my strep. What’s not to love about NYC? Great architecture, great skinny looking people wearing fashionable outfits and lots of train rides and great food. This was a two day trip and we drove! The drive was 12 hours. We left at 7pm and got there at 7am, early enough to get some business done. Business meaning fingerprints for RN test for Alex. We drove back the next day, all day. So we were actually there for just 1 day.

I’ve been to NYC when I was 26 weeks pregnant with Ingrid. Alex had some things he needed to do there so I went along. This time we took Roni with us since she is the number one person who wanted to go. There was not a lot I haven’t seen there and not much I wanted to see. I just wanted the feel of being there, inhaling dirty garbage smells and car pollution. I wanted to be in the crowd of people going places. Last time we visited the Central Park and a few other places so this time we just took it easy.

Alex has a friend, Ruslan, that lives there in Brooklyn. He was very hospitable and nice. He spent the day with us, just entertaining us and showing us around while Alex did his stuff.

WE walked on the boardwalk, had a couple of beers, took some pictures and ate a lot. We had starbucks, hot dogs, sandwiches and such. Alex had to be in three different places that day so we just followed him along and waited for him to get done. While we waited we explored.

Roni dipped her toes in the Atlantic for the first time ever! She was nervous at first but sooooo excited! She has never seen so much water in one place and this just tipped her over the moon. She was just darling trying it out. She loves water and this was the perfect opportunity to show her around.

She also loved the trains. Everything about NYC, she loved! She felt like it was a big party right outside her door and she couldn’t ask for more! I’m pretty sure she will be back one day to live there. It was her cup of tea and she felt right at home.

She did pass out for tho entire hours. By pass out I mean she slept so heavily in her stroller that she didn’t even realize that she had peed in her stroller and the pee went everywhere! We were in Manhattan, on a train with a bunch of people. At first I thought some water had spilled that was in the back of the stroller but I was proved wrong when I went to check. I pretended like it was indeed water, not my daughter’s pee and was quietly embarrassed but laughing inside for the next 23 minutes on that same train. It was a hot day out, we were outside the entire time, and she had drank that water like crazy and then passed out completely. She hardly ever has accidents like that. This was the exception.

On the way back I had more chills, covered myself in a heavy blanket and didn’t talk much. My throat felt like it was being razored and it was NOT a pleasant sensation by any means. Roni behaved worse on the way back, as she felt very comfortable about where we were going and acted out at times which got on my nerves. She never shut up. If she wasn’t whining, she was talking or screaming.

I did have two computers to entertain her and some other toys but that didn’t last long. She also wanted to pee every 10 minutes and screamed bloody murder if we didn’t stop. She only fell asleep the last 20 minutes of the 12 hour drive.

She was acting just fine on the way there since it was night time and she slept most of the time and when she did not she bit her lip. She was nervous as to what was going on. IT was dark and we drove forever. I found it quite amusing that she kept asking questions like “mom, i forgot, where are we going again?” every 20 minutes while awake.

When we made it home at around 11pm, we dropped Roni off at grandma’s. She missed Ingrid so much! When she called grandma, she would ask ” what’s dusik doing?” all the time. Grandma showed Ingrid pictures of Roni and videos and she would get sooo excited! Her arms and legs would start moving in all sorts of directions all at once.

I went to work the next day and had my ortho appointment. I felt like crap and let the girls stay there one more night. Maybe I will feel better enough to pick them up tomorrow. I could hardly move and stayed on the couch with fever, headache and pain. While writing this doesn’t make me talk, it makes time go by faster since being home alone isn’t fun.
